Quote bubble

"Very toxic environment, no leadership, miscommunication, uncompetitive compensation."

Quote bubble

"People leave because they are not valued as a human beings. Expected to take on the role of 2-3 people with no increase in pay. Management also kept hiring supervisors who were incompetent, bypassing other dedicated and loyal applicants."

Quote bubble

"The small animal emergency department/ICU is a joke. No one is trained or held accountable. Mistakes are swept under the rug. The patient care is horrific and I would be scared to bring my pet there."

Quote bubble

"OSU is a toxic environment. Some departments function well, while others do not. For example, technicians are not trusted to do simple tasks (billing, patient care, procedure set up) that are the mainstays of their job. This creates a toxic environment where the technicians are not treated appropriately and their skills are not valued."

Quote bubble

"I have been yelled at, witnessed workers pushed to the point of tears, and falsely accused of things I didn't do. The problem is in the management. Student workers are overworked, underpaid, and treated terribly. Some people haven't even lasted 3 shifts before quitting. The drama, shaming, and unethical environment should be changed."

Quote bubble

"Everyone in HR need to go. They are a large part of the problem as well as one senior admin person. They are a huge source of the toxicity."

Quote bubble

"Money, location, poor facilities, yes those are all issues, but many of us would have stayed if it wasn't such a difficult place to work.  Admin uses lots of excuses but nobody asks us because we'd tell them the real answer. It's toxic here and the job is already hard enough. Other colleges are just run better and at some point you have to pursue happiness.”

Quote bubble

"The environment is toxic and students are not receiving the help and resources they need."

Quote bubble

“Things are tough across veterinary medicine. It takes real strategy to survive let alone to excel. CVM shows no signs of anything resembling smart strategy.”

Quote bubble

”I wouldn’t spend money again here ever.  I literally youtube things i should know from college.  I would have been better off going to one of the islands for my degree. I literally could have watched s*** on youtube for the basics and then got a job as a tech for 2 years at a real hospital and been better off.”

Quote bubble

"Working here you will experience unfairness and lack of respect. When you put in your heart to a place to make it the best when management doesn't care."

Quote bubble

"The past 4-5 years has been difficult for all of Veterinary Medicine and most Colleges. There is a shift in teaching dynamics that I feel OSU seems to be dealing with much similar to the other Universities."

Quote bubble

"No instructors, no staff, not enough cases because prices and poor care are driving away clients. doctors play favorites as well."

Quote bubble

"Toxic work environment and being over worked. When issues brought up, absolutely nothing is done."

Quote bubble

"OSUs pass rate is top five in the country both first takes and ultimate performance."

Quote bubble

"VetMed leaders report that pass rates are sky high, but it's because faculty submit student failures and we are told we cannot fail them. Administration is forcing us to pass students who objectively failed classes."

Quote bubble

"So many times I cried because I was so overwhelmed and didn't have enough support. I started to dread a job I once loved so much. I had to leave before I became another statistic."

Quote bubble

"This hospital needs a change. The student workers are overworked, underpaid, and treated as if they are below working at the hospital. While many of the doctors provide wonderful teaching, support, and experience for workers and students, the environment is toxic. Almost all experienced workers have been forced to quit, resign, or be fired due to false accusations or questionable circumstances. The hospital cannot keep new hires in their staff and it all boils down to leadership."

Quote bubble

"Toxic work environment. Retaliatory Administration. Lack of knowledge of procedures in Veterinary Medicine. Corrupt/deceitful hiring standards. Horrifically poor treatment of staff and terrible pay."

Quote bubble

"I am grateful for all the faculty that still remains at OSU. Most of the ones that are left are there because they care about the students and they want the school to succeed. They each fill a very important role and have been crucial to certain parts of my education. Unfortunately, there just isn't enough of them to fill all the holes in the curriculum."

Quote bubble

"OSU standards are so low that students who apply for internships and residencies from this program are not ranked as highly as students from other schools because it is well known that the quality of education is poor."

Quote bubble

"Certain people in administration are two-faced. Given the opportunity they will get you fired and throw you under the bus and lie about you. It's not just that they target one person they target lots of people. It's why everyone just shows up, says nothing, and goes home. No one wants to get on the wrong side of those people."

Quote bubble

"My recent experience at the OSU CVM the students were not familiar with basic medical techniques or small animal observation protocols."

Quote bubble

"Faculty are spread way too thin and overworked and exhausted trying to manage clinics, research, and teaching, ultimately failing at all of them."

Quote bubble

"Hospital staff are so afraid that administration will come after them that everyone literally will not use the wi-fi because they are afraid certain people are spying on them."

Quote bubble

"I was so embarrassed recently interviewing for a job.  They saw I graduated from OSU and said they heard we lost our accreditation and asked how bad it is there. I had to spend time in a JOB INTERVIEW trying to explain what's happening here. I want to be proud of my degree and I am because I worked hard for it. But I would have to say I would rather go somewhere else if I had it to do over again."

Quote bubble

"Poor wages, poor management resulting in the inability to feel like they could approach management to get things resolved or taken care of."

Quote bubble

"Underpaid, under appreciated, medical needs not being met, poor management, under staffed. The solutions for chronic lack of staff was also terrible. We were frequently left without a technician on site, and forced to run emergencies with little experience or preparation, which frustrated doctor staff."

Quote bubble

"Toxic workplace, lack of diversity cases, and pay."

Quote bubble

"It is a HORRIBLE place to work. The HR dept knowingly allows staff to be treated poorly. They say they're helping but nothing gets done. Dr's are overworked.'

Quote bubble

"This whole website is inflammatory and hurtful. OSU is ranked lowly but has actually increased in rank the last year surpassing schools that were once above us. While other schools like Oregon state and Texas a&m have dropped dramatically. Do you know what rank means? It's funding from the state for research and considering Oklahoma is a poor state with low education funding, I'm not surprised. Other surveys conducted showed that graduates from CSU felt very unprepared to practice medicine and they are "highly" ranked."

Quote bubble

"HR is horrible. They talk about people and discus confidential information with staff, they bad mouth staff and doctors openly, they ignore pleas for help from staff and when you do follow their instructions they later reprimand you for it. There is a much longer list."

Quote bubble

"I think there may be an upper management issue, but I don't think that is all there is. There are tons of petty disputes between services, which are unprofessional. To involve the students in the middle of those disputes is also ridiculous."

Quote bubble

"Incompetent administration and toxic environment."

Quote bubble

"No support and straight up antagonization from management. Excuses about low support instead of getting more support. The Dean isn't to blame though, he tried/tries a ton."

Quote bubble

"Some supervisors are judgmental, cruel, and unethical. No care for their workers and act like they are all beneath working at the hospital. Some of them should not be allowed to work there."

Quote bubble

"Even people outside of the vet Med world can see that things have gone down hill in recent years. I have had multiple people ask me about the decline in care at the teaching hospital."

Quote bubble

"Most people stopped going to HR, because things just didn't happen to make anything better."

Quote bubble

"I personally believe that OSU-CVM, specifically the teaching hospital, needs to re-evaluate the upper management and higher ups. In order to make progress, a whole new regime needs to be installed with people who actually care about their workers and the patient care happening. There are significant improvements needed."

Quote bubble

"I am a recent grad. Being a veterinarian has been my lifelong dream. I would not dare return to OSU if I had to. Favoritism runs rampant, favorite students are permitted to break rules and treat others poorly without repercussion."

Quote bubble

"There is too low of a clinical case load, there are minimal specialists there to teach the students, the vets there have out dated practices and are not open to change."

Quote bubble

"They can't get enough actual veterinarian teachers and the teachers don't do any professional development so their slides/resources are not useful. Plus I feel like they are tired of the old curriculum and so they put in minimal effort into teaching it and just read word for word off their slides. Students stop coming to class because it's not useful and we can just read the slides on our own."

Quote bubble

"Neglected animals, dead patients, taxpayer waste, male-on-female superior-on-subordinate power hostilities, self-dealing, labor law violations, and financial mismanagement. Our animal suffered! The last thing my poor daughter remembers one of the supervising vets saying to her after we put our poor baby down and decided NOT to let the hospital handle his cremation was, "Oh good, I don't have to charge you a freezer fee." Complete incompetence."

Quote bubble

"It is incredibly heartbreaking that the CVM/VTH Leadership is so corrupt. They look out for each other, just a small group who would rather see everyone else leave as long as they keep power.  They took an amazing place and ran it into the ground. If you're not part of their agenda, they will destroy you. They'll do anything they can to make you quit and if you don't, they'll find a reason to fire you."

Quote bubble

"Toxic environment, feelings of a social class or elitist view environment, lack of communication or consistent communication, inconsistent work environment, unfair treatment/favoritism, concerns;problems;issues are not satisfactorily addressed or even resolved, policies; procedures not followed with any consistency across depts, work areas(some act like rules don't apply to them), atmosphere of distrust towards admin, HR, upper management, individuals, no support from supervisors, HR, management, no accountability when under performance is an issue and high performers are rewarded with more work, pay rate is not comparable to other places."

Quote bubble

"People with terrible track records are left in power. Wonder why?"

Quote bubble

"Toxic culture. I was one who left due to lack of support and discrimination by senior administration."

Quote bubble

"With the professors leaving, the students' education has been compromised with little action taken by administration to alleviate the problem."

Quote bubble

"It was good and bad, I wouldn't recommend much with OSU and that's sad. I really like a lot of people there love working with the vet animals."

Quote bubble

"It is not about the money. My career goal was to be there to mentor young veterinarians as a member of the faculty for years to come. But CVM/ VMTH are currently a scam."

Quote bubble

"VMTH is a great place to test your skills. It's a sink or swim environment."

Quote bubble

"One would think that a teaching hospital would not turn away animals found by citizens or law enforcement that need immediate care. I have personally witnessed this. I have personally been told that the hospital would not help an animal without someone footing the bill, even knowing the animal was either found somewhere or knowing the owner is indigent. I know many others with the same experience."

Quote bubble

"Overall I greatly enjoyed my time working at the hospital and getting to watch the students and interns learn and grow. I was driven away by the constant stresses that came from being consistently understaffed to the point that I felt that we were not performing our duties to the best of our abilities and thus not providing the best possible care to our patients. Decisions and changes were made that directly affected my job with no prior communication before the changes were implemented only adding to the already stressful environment."

Quote bubble

"I have practiced veterinary medicine for 60 years. Many of the faculty were not only teachers with regards to veterinary medicine but were mentors and friends as well. They taught me the essential medicine as well as the ability to communicate and interact with clients. I have stayed in the continual contact with many of the faculty and staff as well as all of my classmates. One of my goals is that every class would give back to CVM to the same degree as my class."

Quote bubble

"I did learn a lot during my internship, but working there was a nightmare. We were constantly asked how to make things better but all our suggestions were brushed off because 'that's just how internships are.' Some faculty refused to work with other faculty and trying to get some departments to do their jobs was almost impossible."

Quote bubble

"I love the teaching hospital. I have met so so many amazing doctors and students. But a few great people can't make up for all the other problems."

Quote bubble

"I truly believed that working at OSU-CVM teaching hospital would greatly improve my career, but it did not. It was truly sad to see students who had no idea about cases or diagnoses because they were never taught about it. Do better OSU-CVM."

Quote bubble

"You couldn't pay me enough to go through this vet program or work for them again."

Quote bubble

"The faculty are overworked, underpaid, and under-appreciated. The more people leave, the worse it gets. I heard locums get paid better than the faculty do."

Quote bubble

"My graduating year seemed to see the beginning of this with the loss of the head surgeon, radiologist, internist, oncologist, cardiologist. At the time we (4th year students) were aware of professional and personal concerns that existed between clinicians and staff. Some management level staff were generally faulted for this. Retention of bad teachers or generally not pleasant staff may also contribute but I am not aware of the current state of the school in regards to this."

Quote bubble

"My coworkers and I wanted the place to strive and be the best. We would have concerns or ways we thought we could improve the hospital and we would talk to supervisors and management and our opinions would be ignored. Management has favorites and that is obvious to tell."

Quote bubble

"The culture in the hospital is unaccepting of change - the response to new ideas is always 'this is just how we do it' even when that is outdated or substandard practice. Minimal support staff and vacant clinician roles leaves double or triple responsibilities on the ones who are there, leading to burnout, exhaustion, and substandard care quickly."

Quote bubble

"I learned a tremendous amount and feel like I was properly prepared for practice. However, I recently encouraged one of my friends to choose another vet school because of the recent changes that are occurring and I didn't want her to be handicapped professionally by attending a school that I love dearly."

Quote bubble

"I believe that students coming out of the Oklahoma state CVM program are not adequately prepared to be doctors. I don't think this is from the education side but purely the technical side. I don't think students get enough hands on learning for technical skills that a doctor may have to perform."

Quote bubble

"I think the first 3 years allow us to have a great education, but once we get to 4th year it declines exponentially. We are seeing 2 or 3 patients a day, and the technicians run that hospital. I feel like we were taught how to round and hold animals."

Quote bubble

"No teamwork, battle conflicts between staff and doctors."

Quote bubble

"Exhausted and overwhelmed residents are left to run the clinics for weeks at a time with no senior contact. Technical support often consists of barely trained undergraduate students. Staffing is unsafe for workers and patients. Doctors are required to cover technician shifts with no compensation - just out of fear that the patients will not survive otherwise. Senior technicians are ignorant of basic standards of care. If residents try to complain, they are threatened with withholding of their publication funding or certificate of completion."

Quote bubble

"OSU quit caring about their employees years ago."

Quote bubble

"I liked my time at OSU but overall I felt most professors lacked interest in teaching with a few exceptions. But students are met with dismissiveness or by staff that have no interest on teaching, but will reprimand and tell off students who are trying to learn is non-beneficial.   I feel bad for current students as it appears they do not have even a tenth of the staff I had just a few years ago."

Quote bubble

"At this point it seems unethical for the hospital to continue operating, residency programs to continue to be accredited, and unfair to subject students to the environment."

Quote bubble

"While I did well and found work friends here, I was absolutely burned out, underpaid and overwhelmed. Not to mention incredibly underappreciated. I had to force myself to go into work everyday."

Quote bubble

"We have all seen what happens to people who speak up or try to take initiative to improve things. It's the craziest thing I have ever seen."

Quote bubble

"Propped by hiring locums who don't always teach or interact with students. Smoke screens by administration to mask, or outright hide serious issues."

Quote bubble

"I have witnessed a severe deteriation in our school's reputation. Our students, our faculty, professional services to clients, referral services to our practitioners, cutting edge research and advice have suffered a serious decline in recent years."

Quote bubble

"I do believe there were issues going on but the recent leadership and hires seem to be doing very well."

Quote bubble

"Since these new leaders were hired an insane number of people have quit or been chased away. It they were so amazing why has everything left and why are most people so miserable."

Quote bubble

"It is disheartening to hear Dean say publicly 'if you normalize for size of faculty, they are better than most.'

Quote bubble

"Admin is very slow to change. We are 10-15 years behind other vet schools in our culture and policies. I feel that we need fresh eyes from an outsider to make real change."

Quote bubble

"Love the school and its history. Hate to see the state of professionalism its in now."

Quote bubble

"My 4th year colleagues and I spent more time sitting in the rounds room without a doctor or an animal anywhere in sight than we did seeing or discussing an actual patient."

Quote bubble

"Overall changes in society have lead to diffent levels of Veterinary Medicine. Comparing to the past is not a good thing. Todays students are a bit different and Veterinary Medicine is a bit different. Overall graduates of OSU are able to get into the workforce and become valuable Veterinarians just like the rest of us. I do feel that current changes are producing more ready for practice DVMs than in the past few years."

Quote bubble

"Toxic environment where staff are dominated by faculty, supervisors, administration."
