"This hospital needs a change. The student workers are overworked, underpaid, and treated as if they are below working at the hospital. While many of the doctors provide wonderful teaching, support, and experience for workers and students, the environment is toxic. Almost all experienced workers have been forced to quit, resign, or be fired due to false accusations or questionable circumstances. The hospital cannot keep new hires in their staff and it all boils down to leadership."

"I am grateful for all the faculty that still remains at OSU. Most of the ones that are left are there because they care about the students and they want the school to succeed. "Certain people in administration are two-faced. Given the opportunity they will get you fired and throw you under the bus and lie about you. It's not just that they target one person they target lots of people. It's why everyone just shows up, says nothing, and goes home. No one wants to get on the wrong side of those people."

"I was so embarrassed recently interviewing for a job.  They saw I graduated from OSU and said they heard we lost our accreditation and asked how bad it is there. I had to spend time in a JOB INTERVIEW trying to explain what's happening here. I want to be proud of my degree and I am because I worked hard for it. But I would have to say I would rather go somewhere else if I had it to do over again."

"Poor wages, poor management resulting in the inability to feel like they could approach management to get things resolved or taken care of."

"Underpaid, under appreciated, medical needs not being met, poor management, under staffed. The solutions for chronic lack of staff was also terrible. We were frequently left without a technician on site, and forced to run emergencies with little experience or preparation, which frustrated doctor staff."

"It is a HORRIBLE place to work. The HR dept knowingly allows staff to be treated poorly. They say they're helping but nothing gets done. Dr's are overworked.'

"This whole website is inflammatory and hurtful. OSU is ranked lowly but has actually increased in rank the last year surpassing schools that were once above us. While other schools like Oregon state and Texas a&m have dropped dramatically. Do you know what rank means? It's funding from the state for research and considering Oklahoma is a poor state with low education funding, I'm not surprised. Other surveys conducted showed that graduates from CSU felt very unprepared to practice medicine and they are "highly" ranked."

"HR is horrible. They talk about people and discus confidential information with staff, they bad mouth staff and doctors openly, they ignore pleas for help from staff and when you do follow their instructions they later reprimand you for it. There is a much longer list."

"I think there may be an upper management issue, but I don't think that is all there is. There are tons of petty disputes between services, which are unprofessional. To involve the students in the middle of those disputes is also ridiculous."

"I personally believe that OSU-CVM, specifically the teaching hospital, needs to re-evaluate the upper management and higher ups. "I am a recent grad. Being a veterinarian has been my lifelong dream. I would not dare return to OSU if I had to. Favoritism runs rampant, favorite students are permitted to break rules and treat others poorly without repercussion."

"There is too low of a clinical case load, there are minimal specialists there to teach the students, the vets there have out dated practices and are not open to change."

"They can't get enough actual veterinarian teachers and the teachers don't do any professional development so their slides/resources are not useful. Plus I feel like they are tired of the old curriculum and so they put in minimal effort into teaching it and just read word for word off their slides. Students stop coming to class because it's not useful and we can just read the slides on our own."

"Neglected animals, dead patients, taxpayer waste, male-on-female superior-on-subordinate power hostilities, self-dealing, labor law violations, and financial mismanagement. Our animal suffered! The last thing my poor daughter remembers one of the supervising vets saying to her after we put our poor baby down and decided NOT to let the hospital handle his cremation was, "Oh good, I don't have to charge you a freezer fee." Complete incompetence."

"It is incredibly heartbreaking that the CVM/VTH Leadership is so corrupt. They look out for each other, just a small group who would rather see everyone else leave as long as they keep power.  They took an amazing place and ran it into the ground. If you're not part of their agenda, they will destroy you. They'll do anything they can to make you quit and if you don't, they'll find a reason to fire you."

"Toxic environment, feelings of a social class or elitist view environment, lack of communication or consistent communication, inconsistent work environment, unfair treatment/favoritism, concerns;problems;issues are not satisfactorily addressed or even resolved, policies; procedures not followed with any consistency across depts, work areas(some act like rules don't apply to them), atmosphere of distrust towards admin, HR, upper management, individuals, no support from supervisors, HR, management, no accountability when under performance is an issue and high performers are rewarded with more work, pay rate is not comparable to other places."

"One would think that a teaching hospital would not turn away animals found by citizens or law enforcement that need immediate care. I have personally witnessed this. I have personally been told that the hospital would not help an animal without someone footing the bill, even knowing the animal was either found somewhere or knowing the owner is indigent. I know many others with the same experience."

"Overall I greatly enjoyed my time working at the hospital and getting to watch the students and interns learn and grow. I was driven away by the constant stresses that came from being consistently understaffed to the point that I felt that we were not performing our duties to the best of our abilities and thus not providing the best possible care to our patients. Decisions and changes were made that directly affected my job with no prior communication before the changes were implemented only adding to the already stressful environment."

"I have practiced veterinary medicine for 60 years. Many of the faculty were not only teachers with regards to veterinary medicine but were mentors and friends as well. They taught me the essential medicine as well as the ability to communicate and interact with clients. I have stayed in the continual contact with many of the faculty and staff as well as all of my classmates. One of my goals is that every class would give back to CVM to the same degree as my class."

"I did learn a lot during my internship, but working there was a nightmare. We were constantly asked how to make things better but all our suggestions were brushed off because 'that's just how internships are.' Some faculty refused to work with other faculty and trying to get some departments to do their jobs was almost impossible."

"I love the teaching hospital. I have met so so many amazing doctors and students. But a few great people can't make up for all the other problems."

"My graduating year seemed to see the beginning of this with the loss of the head surgeon, radiologist, internist, oncologist, cardiologist. At the time we (4th year students) were aware of professional and personal concerns that existed between clinicians and staff. Some management level staff were generally faulted for this. Retention of bad teachers or generally not pleasant staff may also contribute but I am not aware of the current state of the school in regards to this."

"My coworkers and I wanted the place to strive and be the best. We would have concerns or ways we thought we could improve the hospital and we would talk to supervisors and management and our opinions would be ignored. Management has favorites and that is obvious to tell."

"The culture in the hospital is unaccepting of change - the response to new ideas is always 'this is just how we do it' even when that is outdated or substandard practice. Minimal support staff and vacant clinician roles leaves double or triple responsibilities on the ones who are there, leading to burnout, exhaustion, and substandard care quickly."

However, I recently encouraged one of my friends to choose another vet school because of the recent changes that are occurring and I didn't want her to be handicapped professionally by attending a school that I love dearly."

"I believe that students coming out of the Oklahoma state CVM program are not adequately prepared to be doctors. I don't think this is from the education side but purely the technical side. I don't think students get enough hands on learning for technical skills that a doctor may have to perform."

"I think the first 3 years allow us to have a great education, but once we get to 4th year it declines exponentially. We are seeing 2 or 3 patients a day, and the technicians run that hospital. I feel like we were taught how to round and hold animals."

"No teamwork, battle conflicts between staff and doctors."

"Exhausted and overwhelmed residents are left to run the clinics for weeks at a time with no senior contact. Technical support often consists of barely trained undergraduate students. Staffing is unsafe for workers and patients. Doctors are required to cover technician shifts with no compensation - just out of fear that the patients will not survive otherwise. Senior technicians are ignorant of basic standards of care. If residents try to complain, they are threatened with withholding of their publication funding or certificate of completion."

"I liked my time at OSU but overall I felt most professors lacked interest in teaching with a few exceptions. But students are met with dismissiveness or by staff that have no interest on teaching, but will reprimand and tell off students who are trying to learn is non-beneficial.   I feel bad for current students as it appears they do not have even a tenth of the staff I had just a few years ago."

"Overall changes in society have lead to diffent levels of Veterinary Medicine. Comparing to the past is not a good thing. Todays students are a bit different and Veterinary Medicine is a bit different. Overall graduates of OSU are able to get into the workforce and become valuable Veterinarians just like the rest of us. I do feel that current changes are producing more ready for practice DVMs than in the past few years."
